NOTTING HILL
Right folks, sorry for not posting anything for so long, we've been snowed under with new clients, hooray! Just a quick note to show you some progress at our site in Notting Hill! It does feel a bit like 'Homes Under the Hammer' with this one! There is some serious renovation and updating to do, but for now it's just a case of getting rid of everything rotten and unusable, then make good the shell for all our lovely design work! Keep your eyes peeled for more updates and other projects, coming soon to a blog near you!

AWARD
Wow, look at what the team at Gravetye Manor were awarded at last nights annual AA awards!
Well done to all the team at the hotel, we love the fact that with in this beautiful setting the hotel puts service first, it's very easy to forget what it's like to be looked after by such attentive staff. Looks like our hard work there is paying off!

As well as winning AA hotel of the year for England, Gravetye Manor was also awarded 4 red star status. Red star properties are those that are singled
out by AA inspectors as being the best in category.
Crawley Studios worked with Jeremy and Elizabeth Hosking who took over the hotel in 2010. We worked with the them during this renovation to keep the original spirit of the house and garden. We were responsible for project managing the major refurbishment of the house and garden, updating the infrastructure of the building. There have been new facilities put in place internally to meet the demands of the guests.

THE TRADE SHOWS
This weekend we visited both the 100% Design and Decorex trade shows. The themes that really stood out was that of reclaiming, reusing and recycling. This as I'm sure you are aware is not a new trend but it is one that is getting stronger and stronger in a culture concerned with landfill and environmental waste.
What we were observing from these designers though was not just a slosh of paint on a Victorian beside cabinet, but something a little more considered that takes the 'upcycling' trend one step further. 'Found' items. We of course have seen found items used in Art for years by artists such as Mark Dion and Joseph Cornell, but it seems to be a reflection on current society that these salvaged, reclaimed items are now being used to create unique, one off functional pieces.
...I wonder if we can find a client who would allow us to rennovate thier home using fully reclaimed & upcycled materials and furniture?! Any takers?!
It was clear that even the other designers that weren't jumping on the upcycling band wagon were still inspired by by designs of a bygone era such as Ian Sanderson and Steuart Padwick.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT...
Not only did this stand use lovely reclaimed timber to create their kitchen setting, they also seem to be revolutionizing the way people grow their indoor plants. This is Bulbo, they use coloured LED light technology to promote photosynthetic efficiency. The aim of all of this is to invent new ways to farm indoors as our climate changes...food for thought!

BRICKS
Here at Crawley studios we have been working long and hard on our new website which we will launch towards the end of September. As such we have been sorting through all sorts of photographs to search for those that show off our best work, in doing so we have realized that Happy-snapper Nigel appears to have an affinity with walls! ITALY
We've recently come back from a fabulous trip in Italy. The colours and the architecture were just wonderful. Look at the way the glowing sun light falls on the bricks and surrounding landscape, simply stunning! It created such a breath-taking and calming atmosphere...I wonder how I can create that in my interior work...

Hampton Court Flower Show
A few weeks ago we attended the Hampton Court Flower Show and we were blown away by the creations we saw there. There seemed to be a huge influence of Industrial, raw materials and colours, such as weathered woods and rusting metals, this was complimented by lot of geometric shapes. There also seemed to be a lot of fiery / Autumnal colours being used such as Reds and Oranges. We also received a rather smashing magazine bag!
